AAA Leaders

{Free Worksheet Below}

I created the AAA Leaders worksheet after reading about a class of architecture students who were struggling to find inspiration for their final design projects. Their professor, Andrew Levitt, tells them to plumb their subconscious for solutions. He encourages them to dig deeper and search for resonant ideas they have already seen.

Triple A rating

I’m not an architecture student, but as I was reading Levitt’s book, Listening to Design, I started thinking about the people who inspired my leadership journey. It was easy to come up with a short list of names. It was more difficult to put my finger on the particular leadership qualities that resonated with me.

And so began the thought experiment that turned into the worksheet below.

I began my reflection by sketching out three areas:

  1. Achievements - what have they accomplished?

  2. Aptitude - what abilities to they possess?

  3. Attitude - how do they think about their role?

To get the most from this worksheet, push through to the generative Advice question which asks: What would they say to you right now? Every time I get to that question, I’m surprised by what my subconscious reveals.

Give AAA Leaders a try. Maybe you’ll be inspired too.
