Subject: Hand-crafted Ice Cream Summer
August 14, 2025
—
Hey Leader!
If your town is anything like mine, the summers are beautiful, and the ice cream is plentiful. There are new ice cream shops (or shoppes) popping up on every block – each with their unique spin…
Ice cream scraped and rolled on a cold slab. Ice cream perched perfectly on lightly-licoriced waffle cones. Ice cream scooped by hipsters, hippies, or hillbillies. It’s a whole movement. Think: microbreweries but for the underage set (and people who don’t like IPA).
Last week, Evie and I went to one such shop on the other side of town called Gorgeous George’s. The tongue-twister is part of the whimsy, and so was the freezer bursting with colour. This was not your standard 50 Shades of Vanilla.
If there was an Olympics for food dye in frozen desserts – George is stacking the podium.
Ultimately, I was impressed with their range of creativity. Bold ingredients. Nuts? Marshmallows? Nerd candy? Yes. Yes. And Yes. Unapologetic combinations: Coffee and Oreos? Also, yes.
You see, GG makes their flavours on site. They can test the recipes in real time. What sells? What makes people curious? What looks appetizing? The feedback is immediate (and essential).
I may not operate an ice-cream lab, but I do create recipes for learning experiences, blending what I know works with what I hope works. Truth is, I have boatloads of ideas in my notebooks, but most have not seen the light of day. Probably, I’m hesitant to hear the feedback. I want perfection, but I need progress.
Maybe this is your problem too. What are you holding back? What are you trying to make perfect before you premiere?
Take a scoop from Gorgeous George. Be bold. Be unapologetic. Be you.
And, remember, feedback is a gift.
