Find Your North
I don’t need Spotify Wrapped or Apple Music Replay or Miro Recap (hat tip to my facilitator nerds). I just need a few minutes to rest, reflect and renew.
Last week, I committed to two reflection-related tasks.
First, I joined Chris Taylor’s Preloaded Year workshop, which gave me some space to think about my goals for next year. Chris helps solopreneurs (coaches, consultants, facilitators) figure stuff out. He’s genuine and generous – and a wizard with the Zoom hotkeys (maybe a stream deck?). Seriously though, I’ve learned a lot from his content and his style. From one Canadian to another: Chris, you’re a good egg.
Second, I went to a coffee shop (sans laptop) and completed the Year Compass for 2026. This is the third year I’ve downloaded it. It’s a great tool to reflect on the highs and lows of last year before refocusing on the year ahead. The best part of the Year Compass ritual is that I take time to review my responses with Toby, another solopreneur – and generous colleague.
Both reflection activities put life before work. Personal before professional. As a solopreneur, I can get obsessed with my “job.” It can be hard to find the edges of my work. The responsibilities feel endless (fun, but still endless). Most days I’m good with it, but at the end of the year I’m thankful for the reminders to reset my priorities.
Onward!
